A dedicated set of modules within the MEd Programme has been designed for the
Standard of Chartered Teacher. These modules have been approved by the GTCS and
will be recognised as contributing towards becoming a Chartered Teacher.
Who is the programme for?
Entry to the MEd programme leading to Chartered Teacher status
will normally be open to teachers who:
- have full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland
- are at the top of the main salary scale
- have maintained a CPD Portfoloio
What qualification will I be awarded?
Through your choice of modules, you can specialise in particular
stages or aspects of teaching so that in addition to meeting Chartered
Teacher requirements you will receive a named Postgraduate Certificate,
Postgraduate Diploma or Masters degree in:
- Early Education
- Primary Education
- Secondary Education or
- Inclusion and Learner Support
How is the programme structured?
The programme comprises the equivalent of 12 modules
and is structured in three stages.
Stage 1 consists of 2 core modules and 2 option modules:
- Module 1 focuses on self-evaluation and will build upon your CPD and your related portfolio;
- Module 2 focuses on Enquiry into your Professional Practice ie. Learning and Teaching;
- Modules 3 and 4 are Option Modules.
- Stage 2 offers a combinaiton of two core modules and two option modules.
- Stage 3 will be either one substantial or two smaller work-based projects
that will be the equivalent of 4 postgraduate modules.
Successful completion of Stage 3 will lead to the award of MEd and
entitle you to apply for recognition by the GTCS as a Chartered Teacher.
